I never really thought of my self as an "artist" until recently when I took an inventory of my "arts skills". I love to crochet, sew and quilt, and have taken textiles from from grade 8-12. I enjoy creating gifts and cards with my silhouette cameo (similar to a cricut) where I have played around with with paper, vinyl, and even glass etching. I love just playing around crafting. As well I have taken dance classes for many years in high school, my favourite experience having a role in Suessical the Musical.
Though I have realized I still have some challenges with the arts, such as I am not sure of the vocabulary that comes along with it. It is a goal I have in order to be a more proficient and well rounded teacher.
Enjoy my exploration of the arts!
Congratulations on beginning to see yourself as an artist as well as on your desire to become a well-rounded and proficient teacher. Using correct language is important but don't let the lack of it stop you from using the arts to bring life to your classroom. I didn't know "chiaroscuro" until I read The Tale of Despereaux and I didn't know when it started or who did it in their art work until I prepared the model lesson for you. The best thing about being a teacher is we get to keep learning!
